I just watched the fight again. I was outraged at the time, but now, I can see how it was scored for GSP

In a fight where no one gets KO'd or submitted and it is 'competitive' throughout, I like to use this acid test: "Whose face would I rather have after the fight or who would I rather wake up being?" I am pretty sure other than not having the title, Johnny is feeling much better than George today.

I don't know why people like Dana are giving George a tough time about requesting time off though. If GSP vacates the title and takes a couple of years to train and refocus for Health or Personal reasons there should be no Fear, Obligation or Guilt placed upon a fighter by a promoter. Being at the top and training and competing in this sport not only takes a physical toll but an emotional and psychological toll. Anyone who does respect a fighters wish to take some time to mentally recoup has never stepped between the ropes or into a cage. If GSP takes time off, but wants to hang onto the title ... well that would be a bitch move though.

Same here, I don't think the judges did a terrible job of "scoring" the fight under the current 10 point must system. I just think the system itself is flawed. It doesn't account for someone eeking out a close round vs. someone decisively winning a round but not quite 10-8 worthy.

Maybe 10-8 shouldn't be such a rarity, reserved only for near finishes. Truthfully, fixing the scoring and judging system would be fairly easy if the commissions and the UFC were truly interested in doing so. Dana should offer to work together with the commissions to help them understand how MMA fights should be scored vs. how they are currently being scored. A panel of experts could look at every single fight with a questionable decision and apply different scoring models/theories until they found one that accurately scored a result appropriate for an MMA bout.

Long story short, the UFC should pay me an exorbitant fee to resolve the scoring/judging issues.

I thought the Russian Reporters question of the Russian fighter Ali B. in the Post fight was hilarious.

Russian Reporter: "You called yourself the Puncher! What happened, there was no punching or knock-out from you?"
Ali B: "I always watch movies of Arnold Schwarzenegger growing up and he was right there in the audience so I wanted to spend as much time as I could there."

What?? Round 2 was where Georges was put on rubber legs and had to fight off his back for a bit. I really thought Hendricks was going to finish him at that point. So Hendricks won that round pretty decisively.
The 1st and 3rd round were the close ones. I gave Hendricks the first for the takedown defense ( I think he got taken down within the first 10 seconds but popped back up) and in my expert opinion Johny did more damage. Especially with those elbows when Georges was in on the legs against the fence. Im pretty sure the majority of the strikes GSP landed were stiff jabs.
3rd round I can see how it went to Georges but with Johny getting the takedown with 30 seconds left I was sure the judges would put more weight into that, since they do with any other fight.

The 10 point must system skews fights like this big time. Although I think Johny won the fight following these rules, I also believe if the fight was scored as a whole Johny would have won pretty decisively as well.

Hendricks rocked him a bit in round 2, but GSP outstruck him the rest of the round. I favor a round of methodic fighting over a brief flash of brilliance. As for round 1, I gave Hendricks that round, but I could see where they could give it to GSP (Hendricks had the strikes, GSP had the pressure). On another note, I've lost a massive amount of respect for Dana White. The things he's saying and the disrespect he's shown towards GSP is completely inappropriate.

I'd have to watch it again. I scored that on the initial viewing and to be honest I can't remember everything about the round now lol. I believe I scored it that way because Johnny rocked gap but it wasn't like he flat out dropped him. Gap got up, and commenced to out striking him 2 or 3 to 1. Plus Hendricks was looking flat and just taking shots to the chin. I mean sure, they weren't hurting Johnny super bad, but points are points.

Who were the punch stats in favor of? Hendrix won the wall fighting and damaged gsp face bad. Gsp pushed forward more and had more kicks. I don't blame gsp for wanting to retire he held the title for a long time and that is a big weight to carry for such a long time. Just look how long running backs last in the NFL.
