Most effective submissions for big old ghetto booty people

Don't worry, this doesn't concern Renato Laranja even though the title includes booty.

I know long limbs are generally better for jiu jitsu (and possibly all sports?) and I've seen my sparring partners lock up a d'arce really easily due to their long, thin arms. I decided to work hard on my d'arce and it's improving but I'm never gonna have the natural advantage they have due to having average length (as far as I'm aware) arms.

My big genetic advantage in life is having natural muscular, thick legs and glutes. They're not particularly long - bone length is normal but they're thick as hell. My dad's an even more extreme example - real melon calves. My question is, is there some way I can exploit having big legs? Would that make a triangle tighter or give me some benefit in some other sub/pass etc?

    Thanks for any input.

All body types have there advantages in jj. Look at Keenan and Marcelo, complete opposite body types and both complete badasses.

On the triangle, try the tee-pee. With the darce learn the Japanese Necktie. They both allow you to finish at a further fulcrum. With the tee-pee all you have to do is cross your ankles and the Invent all you have to do is connect your hands.

Thanks. You're quite right about ways to finish that work without needing longer limbs, but my question is: does having big legs bring any advantage I can exploit? Maybe it doesn't apart from looking good in speedos. Which may or may not be an advantage.

lower center of gravity, strong base. Get good at no-gi judo. Always get the take down and get to dominate positions like kesa gatame while they're still dazed.

Chris Herzog has some ni-gi judo/sambo techniques(not nearly as much as I would like, hint Mr. Herzog)

Karo Parisyans Judo for MMA is playing at my house often. Its great but it doesnt address how to fall or throw your partner safely so be aware that you want to get some knowledge on that and dont think there isnt much to that aspect, its important.

When I see jj guys practicing takedowns often it seems that they are very afraid of getting guillotined and that limits them getting in and getting good hooks and being hip to hip. I hesitate to give technical advice because of my rank but if you understand what makes guillotines work then you should understand what you can do to make them fail. Its not very nice but I like to spear people with my head, neck posture is important, keep your neck straight and stiff like its part of your trunk, chin down and dont look up look out of the top of your eyes, keep a shoulder connected to your neck when you can and always land on the correct side and bolt your hip to the ground. I mostly figured this out myself so take it with a grain of salt. (dont know if you have that expression in Finland)

Yes. Having big legs has a ton of advantages to exploit. When I'm sizing someone up, I'm not afraid of pecs and delts. Its dat ass. Like Aaron said, our center of gravity is our hips. All of us. The more skeletal structure and muscle to reinforce it the better. Just start consciously leading and moving with your hips more. When they start moving in the proper direction they will be much harder to stop than someone who is top heavy. The trick is finding the direction with the timing. You got ass. Use it.

A common adage for BJJ is that short, thick bodies are best at leglocks. I don't know how true that is, but that's what they say.
