    Unifying all JJ belt systems

I'm always in conversations about either

1)what rank a unranked grappler would be equivalent to in gi and nogi
2)if a ranked grappler is actually better or worse than their current ranking
c)potpourri ranging from "if" i'm a nogi purple belt then.... what the difference between a blue belt with no stripes and full stripes

Here's my solution. When you roll with someone if they're a higher rank than you and you beat them, then you two switch belts. The finer details need worked out but I think theres something to it.

Belts mean different things to different people. In certain competitions it can mean there are more or less techniques available but after training a while I think people become less concerned about nailing down what you are talking about.

Everyone is on their own journey.

I think the belt switching scheme you mentioned would try to put this art into a box and I also think that people should be encouraged to put themselves out there, and this hypothetical situation could make people more hesitant to do so. Anyone could tap anyone, thats part of what makes this art so exciting.

It's an interesting concept but perhaps it makes to much emphasis on rank. For instance, would it discourage higher belts from trying techniques, perfecting escapes against lower ranks just so they wouldn't be downgraded? I believe potentially so.

Belts are not only an indicator of approximate base skill level but also discipline. How many people do you know that roll at a high level but for various reasons have never been ranked? To me part of attaining a belt is also showing a commitment to regular training. There are obviously exceptions to this as shown by Eddie promoting various well deserving Ronins.

So you think that higher belts roll full tilt all the time ... lol good call ... If the system works like that ... white belts will get raped at a good club because no one will let them play and learn. In class it should be your lab ... its not the same as competition ... As well diff schools keep different levels of skill for a certain belt level ... there are clubs that sell belts ... your suggestion would lead to the deterioration of JJ ...
