    Technique Question

Something I play with from a lot of positions is controlling someone's arm by reaching behind their back to hook over their forearm, same grip you'd use to pin someone's arm if you were working towards an RNC. I did it here in comp (starting around 9:15) from quarter guard:

I don't generally use it to sub by taking it behind their back like that, but just pinning their arm to their stomach controls the daylights out of people and lets me work to sweep or to transition. Everyone I've rolled with knows I go for it and if there was ever a "my move" this little grip would be it. The only person who's shut me down on it was Brandon Mccraghen when I tried it on him in Indy. (Hespect!) I hit it like crazy from everywhere otherwise and it works on guys as high as purple belt any time I drop in at another gym, so I don't think it's just a noob-killer.

My question is does anyone know of any instructional videos/literature/tips that utilize this grip? I know it's not a big flashy "new" move but I get a ton of milage out of it and want to use it for set ups I might not have thought of.

    Thanks guys.

I love doing this...haven't seen it done much, but like you, I use it to prevent basing out during sweeps and I have used it to sub before. I usually get this from a few places and a lot from being in Judo Side Control. It's basically like the 5-O control. Here's a clip of Sean Bollinger demoing it:

    +1

Judo side's probably the easiest. It's great from lockdown perfect double unders as well, especially if they try to punch. I even use this to escape mount when someone is flat on top of me, but in that instance I try to go 5-0 and get their arm behind their back so that passing their guard is easier once I'm on top.

Shayna Baszler made that famous years ago. Legit move. She called it the shayna wing or Shwing. She got it with her foot from guard.. Other folks play it too. Sean beezy has tons from the 5-0 and cop control. Check out more of his stuff.

The only work I've seen like this with the foot was the WCLWOLVERINE videos on the "Puppet Master," but in recent threads Zog cited that path as debunked.

    ^Look like this?

It's killer from whip up, especially with punches.

No no, shayna's is not the puppet master. Lol I was fighting on zogs side in the puppet master debunking. She just sorta butterfly's your arm into wrist control on the other side behind you back, very different from puppet master stuff. As in entire other leg and no rubber guard.

I can see clearly how my first post made them sound like they were the same. My bad wording.
