I just wanted to put a little info out on our tournament for those not familiar...
www.KakutoChallenge.com
-Early Weigh ins on Friday evening (April 25th) at the venue.
-Sat (April 26th) We start weigh-ins at 0700 and we start rolling kids at 0900 so that we complete the kids by 11. We start with highest experience level and roll them first, working our way to the novices. This gives the new people a chance to see how tournaments work and makes things move more smoothly. We do this in kids, teens, adults, and ladies.
We should begin adults/teens/ladies' at noon and be wrapped up by 5 pm (really 4, we hope). We will then transform our arena from 6 rings to 3 and begin our pro-invitational tournaments at 7pm. VIP tables along side the ring will be available and food will be sold (sorry, not brought in).
We've enjoyed having the 10thPJJ guys from Gulf Shores and Decatur, as well as some of the Hotbox guys from AL come out to Atlanta to compete in the previous two tournaments. In fact, Chase at Gulf Shores won our Absolute Intermediate and Brandon from Decatur has represented well in our Pro Invitational twice.
Our tournament is, in most regards, a sub-only (no sub, no advancement) except for kids...they can score 2 points each for takedown/throw, full mount, back mount, but only during a 2-minute overtime which restarts on the feet. Very few kids win points, though...they come out to get subs and they usually get 'em. Anyway, kids get 4 minutes with 2 min OT, beginner and novice adults/teens/ladies get 6min & 2min OT, and the intermediate and above get an 8 min with 2 min OT. Although our tournament is single elimination, we still send everyone home tired because of the consolation rolls that we line up. However, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners get to take home a pretty slick custom medal. We have divs appropriate for ages 4+ (no subs 4-7, just roll--"Fun Roll") We are $150 cash to each absolute 1st place. We also offer "gi-only" and "Gi-optional". Gi allows you to wear any variation of the gi you wish. Gi-optional allows you to use the gi or not...your choice. Your opponent may choose differently, though...
Our Pro-Invite has two divisions competing on April 26th: Mens 192lbs and Ladies 135lbs (I think). Both tournaments are 6-person Round Robin. Top two women in the RR will fight each other (perhaps again) for the cash and Kakuto Kup (up to a grand). Same thing for the 192 lbs guys. Pros get 10 minute rounds with a 3 minute OT, then they swich opponents after the rest period. The finals are run with two 15 minute rounds where a draw results in each fighter taking only $100.00 (instead of up to $1000).
In the Amateur Open, the Intermediate Absolute divsion is a qualifier for the ProformGuard.com Amateur Sponsorship Invitational which will be held this summer. To get invited, you have to place 1st or 2nd in the Intermediate Absolute or have one of the two fastest subs in the intermediate absolute tournament. That selects four people to compete with the other four that qualified the same way at kakuto II. This 8-person tourney will be run where the winner recieves the ProformGuard.com Sponsorship Package. The package includes $1000 in competition cost reimbursement, a pair of ProformGuard.com Custom Sports Mouthguards, and nice pack of Defense Soap products, and a ProformGuard.com Sponsor Patch for your Gi and Shorts. Maybe we'll get some other cool goodies put together for this.
Anyway, look up on fb facebook.com/kakutochallenge please and come out and support us!
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there! We have a ton of fun and I think we run a pretty smooth tournament.
OH! and if you register/pay by Feb 15th, you'll get 2 divisions for $69 and 4 for $99 just for being an early bird!
