    Elbow Bursistis

Has anyone ever dealt with this? During training, I was armbarred. It came on quick, and I didn't try to fight it. I didn't hear a pop, but there was that grinding feeling, you know? I slapped hands, and kept on rolling. This was Monday. I rolled on Tuesday, and it was a little sore. Wednesday, it really started swelling and hurting. I shove m arm in my belt, and rolled a couple of rounds. It became so excruciating, that I had to stop. My elbow is HUGE now. One of my training partners had this awhile back, and he said it would go away over time. Any thoughts?

I'd recommend seeing the doctor just to be sure (that's me). Have u been icing it and stretching it in the meantime? Try some heat treatment too (not a doctor, but in the meantime until u can see a med professional)

Ice plus ibuprofen for swelling. Probably not a bad idea to get it checked out either.

One of my student's just got elbow bursitis about two weeks ago for the second time. He went to the doctor and the doctor told him it will go away in time on its own. If you can go see a doctor and between now and then ice it.

jesus christ dude, when you get injured you wait until it gets better or go get treatment. When you get injured and your body hurts when your doing nothing you should definately not train! Anyways, its too late for that.

from what remember a bursitis is inflimation in the bursa, usually in the elbow its also known as students elbow because of the way students lean their elbows on their desks. Usually its located in the back of the elbow. It might just be swelling because of all the inflamation you may have caused it while grappling with an injured elbow.

First thing you should do is see a professional. They most likely tell you to put cold on it for 20 minutes ( not more than 30 cuz it does the opposite affect!), when the temperature comes back to normal on your elbow, put cold on it again. Do this for about 2-3 days, more like 5 in your case.. Do not put heat on an acute injury, it will only make it worse. You should NOT stretch it! It will only make it worse, wait until about 1-2 weeks depends on your symptoms at the time. Stretching and using heat at the beginning of an injury is a BAD idea. Trust me, I studied this stuff.

Also, you don't want to get compartment syndrome where inflammation is so much that it compresses your nerves and creates nerve damage and necrosis (tissue death) to the extremity (in this case your fingers). Usually this happens with car accidents though so it shouldn't be that bad. I hope you can move your fingers..

Anyways, the basics of injuries are the RICE formula (rest, ice, compress, and elevate). I believe its changed a bit now but that one is good enough. and by the way elevate is for elevating your elbow above your heart, not just in the air. I could go on but i think that's good enough.

ibuprofen is not a bad idea but if he never took the drug before he could be allergic but its rare. NSAID's are good but the RICE formula is even better if you add them together. But then again we need inflammation for healing but not in excessive amounts of course. Its about REDUCING the inflammation, not eliminating it.

using heat is only appropriate in its chronic stage (3 weeks and above after injury assuming you have not re injured it of course..)

I got it several times, it got to where my elbow throbbing would keep me up. I went and got ART, solved the issue completely.
