Totally agree. Braulio is famous for the inverted/reverse triangle but this z guard technique doesn't have the arm inside the triangle....

So is it a choke or a triangle?

I'm def putting this into my game to see if I can get it rolling. It's going to be tricky getting used to a triangle without the arm in though....

The arm is most definitely in the there, and yes it is a triangle.

Its a version of yoko sankaku jime (side triangle choke) in Judo, completely different set up as most triangles in judo are done while attacking the turtle.

I tested this out on a guy at the gym today - each time he tapped before I even got to the point of locking my legs together, but he's only a white belt, so hard to say and doesn't prove much, but the arm definitely wasn't in there. It's just my arm and my leg around his neck. I just had the back of my knee over the side of his neck and as soon as I reached up and grabbed my shin he tapped - his face went bright red too, so it was definitely 'on'.

Looking at this pic from the video I don't see the defender's arm inside the triangle either..?

The arm is absolutely inside the triangle. That's why he is reaching back and trapping the tricep with his left hand. Watch the flow, guys.

So... the feet locking up makes it inside the triangle. I get it. My guy tapped before I locked my feet, that's what confused me...

So check it; you get your other leg free by baiting the guy by pretending to sweep and then letting him pass your bottom leg, that's when you switch to the triangle. The arm is definitely in there. Why did your guy tap early? Because it's tight as a mf'er. If you watch the video again, you'll see that Drew didn't even get his ankle behind his knee for a fully locked in triangle and the guy still tapped.

The entire reason I hold the tricep in the first place is to keep the arm in. Its definitely in there.
