    Fundamentals for a newby

Hello everyone, just want to say I'm so happy to be here. I am completely sold on the 10th planet system not to mention the philosophy of the man himself. (Eddie Bravo)

I was hoping I could get some advice for someone, where shall I start with the 10th P system? What are the fundamentals best for me to start with?

I have grappled and done bjj, but I just want to concentrate on 10th planet system, also my training partner is a complete newby to Jiu Jitsu .

    Any advise would be great.

    Cheers, Neil

P.s Good luck to Eddie, take it to him!

Get the warm ups down dude.

Then maybe look at the initial lockdown, RG path and twister side stuff.

Best bet would be to travel to one of the UK moons n spend a few days with them

I've had similar questions and may be able to relay some of what I learned. Are you currently training BJJ? If not, what was your previous belt level?

My bet is that many here would advise you to study what you can where you can so that you have very strong fundamentals.

thanks for the post david. I am going to try and hook up with the Birmingham Moon hopefully, they are the nearest to me. hopefully I could do a couple of days a month. I have been watching the warm ups, I agree that these would be an great start.

Hi Joshua thanks for the post. I am not a bjj club at present, in truth I have been a bit disillusioned with bjj especially near me. listening and watching Eddie Bravo, has give me a new excitement in Jiu Jitsu and Grappling. I started "grappling" in 1997 in a catch wrestling club in Atherton , uk; although I wanted to train in bjj but at the time they wasn't any around here only a few in the uk. With my work I have travelled around Europe and I have been lucky to train a various BJJ academies, but because I have never stayed in one place for to long I have never been ranked. I have also trained in judo when there hasn't been a bjj club.
watching the MTS and listening to EB has made me want to learn this system I have got the same feeling of excitement like the first time I was introduced to grappling and BJJ.

My two cents (from a white belt) - work on your flexibility. Stretch everyday. Whenever I'm sitting on the couch watching tv I am stretching. This has made a huge difference not just for 10th Planet techniques but for traditional BJJ too. I am short and have very short legs and have always struggled to get to closed guard. I can now lock my legs and get closed guard on almost everyone at the gym.

    Neil, welcome aboard, brother!

I know it sounds like an over exaggeration, but simply learning to stay on your side and protect yourself is one of the most basic and important concepts you can have. I'm working out a video on this today, actually

Whatever you learn, pair it up with the escape to that technique.
I found it a good rule of thumb for me personally.
The more you learn about the escape from a technique, the more you learn about the technique.
    It works synergistically.

My advice would be to find a school near you that trains Jiu Jitsu. Any Jiu Jitsu is better than none, just find one that's open to new techniques and isn't a blatant 10th Planet hate school. I've found that teams without a direct affiliation (Gracie Barra, etc) are a lot cooler with 10th Planet and are open to learning all kinds of Jiu Jitsu, as they don't have some direct link to a big Black belt that tells them everything else sucks apart from what they do.

Get through to train with Mick @ Birmingham as soon as you can and try to find a good local place. and enjoy catching up on Mastering the System
