Bottom line...Royler can grab pants...eddie cant...doesnt matter how it went down its a huge advantage to Royler. Ive never heard of an 'unspoken' rule that in no gi you csn grab gi pants? In no gi you cant grab anything...thats the rule at every single tournament ive ever been to during the last 10 years.
What the fuck is a lawyer even doing getting involved in a bjj match talking about clothing? Ridiculousness

I was actually just reading the NAGA rule book and it includes this:

"No grabbing the opponent’s clothing. Some competitors feel there is
an advantage to wearing Gi pants or sweat pants that extend below
the knee. Those players electing to wear full length pants that go
below the knee should understand that the pants can be grabbed by
the other player, to Takedown, to pin, etc. The rules governing
grabbing Gi pants are identical to those allowed for Gi competition.
(See page 58 of this rules document). Competitors cannot grab their
own clothing or the clothing of their opponent. The ONLY acceptable
use of shorts grabbing is grabbing one’s own shorts to defend
    submissions."

I had never seen this before but I guess it is somewhat "common" with how widespread NAGA is.

LOL. I tried man. I honestly never had animosity toward Royler. Still don't. He's still a legend. But so is Royce. And the things I've heard about Royce make him a douche too. So it is what it is. Legends can be douches too.

Me either. I've rolled with partners that have had gi pants and never once felt the need to grab their pants. I thought it was the other way around. There's an unwritten rule that we DON"T grab the pants since we're rolling NO gi.

    Heh. Go figure.

Meh. In the local Revolution No-Gi tournament, it's a written rule. No grabbing clothes. Serious foul.

This is funny. Just ask Bobby Rivers why.

Its common that you can grab pants in nogi. With that being said, the author is silly. According to her, all of this could have been avoided if Eddie would have just talked to royler...hmmmmm.

I was just at Naga 3 weeks back for 9 straight hours before Meg even had her first match. I watched more jiu jitsu than even I care too. Several guys wore gi pants in no gi after their gi divisions were up. I didnt see a single guy grab pants the entire day. If there was an unwritten and in this case maybe a written rule...you would think guys would be grabbin pants all day...but in fact it was the opposite...guys assumed you cant grab pants because its no-gi.

It's hard to give an unbiased opinion... but I will say that I have to side with Eddie:

#1- Eddie took a paycut to make the fight happen, to save himself from potentially losing more money, he asks that the fight goto 165lbs... FAIR/Reasonable.

#2-If Royler didn't care what Eddie was wearing, then he wouldn't have had a lawyer re-discuss the contract.

imo... this is just gamesmanship at its finest and the Gracies (though a bad ass family), have a long history of pulling this.

it's definitely still a douche move, I do however think the author is right that had Eddie and Royler been able to talk this may have been avoided. Big ups to Eddie for not making a big deal out of any of it and not "lawyering up" like royler. It's like getting your mom when your big brother is making faces at you. Cry baby ass move.
