during the day class and on tue and thur nights, we don't break between rounds at all. just move on to the next guy. if you need to break, then do it; your choice. but if i see a blue belt or higher catching his breath while everyone else is rolling, he's gonna get the biz the next round.

This has been on my mind a lot lately. My answer is honestly, not as much as I should. It kinda depends on class size and who is there but I try to get at least 3-5 rounds in every night that I train. Mon-Wen-Fri I train twice a day but I dont get as much actual rolling time. I can get much more than that during our tue-thursday advanced class though. Maybe its just me but I never feel like I have done enough when I leave the gym, but Im being careful not to burn myself out.

Are you training at Maverick on Mon and Wed during the day and twice on Friday? Because we don't even have Friday classes, and I know you aren't there during our day classes on Mon and Wed. Those would be plenty of work for you for sure.

Five Fives most days, one a week I will do ten Fives or fifteen Fives if I am feeling really frisky.

I find I am just as dead when I do five as I am doing ten, because I tend to pace myself accordingly

I'll keep this in mind while we're up there next week.

I found that averaging 5x5 min rounds is a nice round-about estimate. It's a balance of keeping you thirsty to roll more, while not burning yourself out. 5x5=25, so 3x8's is also doable. Sometimes I'll do 6x8 min rounds, or 10x5 min rounds, while other times I'll have only 3x3min rounds. In the end, I've seen it average out to keeping a consistent 25 minutes of hard rolling per night.

You'll have guys/gals that roll twice a day or 3x a day, but you gotta have money for that type of effort. More training equates to more food intake, and more wear and tear on the body. I savor grappling like fine wine, while others may want to do shots to the head, everyday. There's a trade-off in either case.

Just my two cents. Hope this thread gives you a good perspective on the different times and level of effort people are putting forth. Enjoy the journey!

5 minute rounds, switching partners every round, with a five minute break every three rounds. Typically we skip the breaks once a week on "cardio" rolling night, but technique really suffers when we roll for that long without any breaks.

Lol. I must be doing shots to the head then. I roll aggressive and hard..that's why these ten 5s are kinda hard. Been trying to take organic protein after rolling to help as well. Yea, 25 is the average it seems, like with no stopping. We have a lot of new guys so after 4 or so rolls they're out. Plus, i try to be somewhat nice to them. I have to ask the OGs to help me get the ten. They're ok with beating up and getting beat up for two or three rounds in a row.

I wish I could do day class!! A few more years maybe I can hit one or two a week.
