Then I suck at communicating. I guess we were arguing different points and I had an imaginary debate. My bad. I thought you were counterpointing to the opposite extreme. Like you were saying Marcelo always uses the gi even though on video he rarely does. So if you're not saying that Marcelo is gi dependent while in the gi, then I've been arguing with a wall. My bad.
Does this guy think Eddie would call Jean Jacque a d bag for wearing a gi???? Highly doubt it. Jiu jitsu is a sport sports are based upon the rules you and your opponent agree upon. If you have an MMA fight you better do some no gi. If you're trying to win the pan ams, it wouldn't hurt to pull your gi out of storage!
Read what I wrote. JJM was my hero way before I even knew who Eddie was. I don't hate the gi. But unfortunately, from my experience, you're more likely to encounter a douche in a gi than without. Not saying they're all douches. Just saying some guys fit the criteria of being a gi douche.
And I agree with Marcelo that a good style to have is mostly no gi as he demonstrates. I roll in the gi. I just use a primarily no gi style.
Thats why I said eddie took Marcelo's comment out of context and he actually changed it, that's what I was correcting
No worries
So I just rewatched that Rolled Up episode. Marcelo says a lot of really interesting things in there. Some of it I think is way more controversial than what we've been talking about. For instance:
1. Gi is easier
2. You have to be a Black Belt in gi AND a Black Belt in no gi.
3. Arm Triangles and Footlocks are inefficient.
