Why don't you watch that video again, he grabs selves, he uses a loop choke, he gets far lapel control from top half and again from side control, lol

Go subscribe to MGinaction and go over multiple videos of Marcelo teaching the bow and arrow, butterfly sweeps with sleeve and belt control, other Gi chokes, sweeps from x guard with sleeve control, etc...and get back to me, I was on the site for a year, how about you?

Than you can even watch him use it "in action" to really see

You're gym should have punch defence and other self defence-specific techniques as part of their curriculum regardless of whether you wear a gi or not.
The fact that you think and untrained assailant can't take out a trained jiu jitsu practitioner is ridiculous.

It defiantly increases your odds, but shit can go bad in real life very quickly regardless of how much you train.

I won't comment on the gi/ no-gi debate as its just silly. Train whatever you want, THE END.

For the record, I love no Gi training, makes you offensive minded, quick on the transition, more wrestling involved, builds up your grappling cardio because not many places "to hide", develops the use of natural handles and clinching, etc...it's good stuff just like Gi training

Whatever, Rob. You have betrayed us all. I don't think we can be friends since you aren't in my church anymore.

Ok this has more gripping from Marcelo. Mostly for submissions. But by comparison to how much Faria was pulling all over, you can still see Marcelo's philosophy in action. Use more no gi based movement. So yeah, I guess you can say that technically Marcelo does still use grips on occasion, but he's no where near as dependent as everyone else. I'm not convinced.

Convinced of what? Lol, this is getting silly

Marcelo Garcia uses Gi grips and Gi chokes, is there really any other thing to say here?

Technically false, sure. But after watching a few videos, I can see how rarely he uses the gi by comparison to 90% of gi players out there. Most gi guys are playing tug of war from beginning to end. Marcelo maybe grabs the gi 5% of the time he's rolling. I'm not convinced.

I understand, but if we ever get a chance to roll I will grab your Gi pants if you're wearing them!

I'm not convinced that because Marcelo occasionally uses the gi that it nullifies his philosophy to use mostly no gi applicable movements. He said what he said for a reason. Because it makes more sense to concentrate most of your jiu jitsu on movements that translate to everything. That way you're never out of practice or rusty when going between both. So I'm not convinced that just because he occasionally uses the gi that his previous statements are somehow taken out of context.
