you're gym should have punch defence and other self defence-specific techniques as part of their curriculum regardless of whether you wear a gi or not.

It defiantly increases your odds, but shit can go bad in real life very quickly regardless of how much you train.

I won't comment on the gi/ no-gi debate as its just silly. Train whatever you want, the end.
    the end

Yo man, who the hell is Marcelo, and why do you guys keep talking about him?
"Blame the IBJJF when, in 30 years you see an academy that nails the phrase, "A Red belt is a Junior black belt that hasn't died yet" on the far wall."

Did he or didn't he grab the sleeve?

Besides the other gi grips Marcelo used did you completely miss when from bottom Marcelo took out Faria 's lapel, wrapped it over his arm and used it to help lever an escape?

    Lol, I'm not convinced!

David's just being a lemming. Turning a blind eye in the face of VIDEO EVIDENCE because Dear Leader said it wasn't so.

Why did he grab the sleeve? What did he do with that sleeve grip? You have no point. If all you want to do is feel like you won an internet argument over a technicality, then pat yourself on the back. If you have a valid counterpoint regarding his actual philosophy and style, bring it. Otherwise, stop. You're just being a douche. Whether he grabbed a sleeve in the first second or after a half hour of rolling is irrelevant. It's about how gi dependent he is. And he's not.
