How jelly do you get?

last night North Carolina fighters Ricky Rainey Rodney Wallace and Joe Pochencho all fought on Bellator. Rodney and ricky won and joe lost a desicion. I have fought on a couple of cards with these guys, me and joe both won on my first card.Now the question, I mentioned to the pro boxer at my gym that these guys were fighting and how proud i am to have shared a cage with these guys, and he said "you're better than me when i see someone get better fights than me and we fought the same cards, i get jealous." So how jealous do you guys get when someone you have fought beside gets a better shot than you?
I dont get all jelly only because not everyones big shot is everyones big shot. At this point just getting a pro debut will make me break down in tears. (is that how you spell it? ) So when i see friends and fam fight on tv or whatever I'm just glad that made it, and the dream can be realized!

Im just proud when the people I train with accomplish things but I dont consider myself their equal so its probably easier to not feel jealous.

its also the ego factor a jiu jitsu ego is not equal to a boxers, for the most part, i guess it could be the same as belt promotion. we dont like to admit it but everyone gets that why not me feeling no matter how big or small that feeling is

Yeah, I did TKD for 5 years and I train in Shotokan and we do spar a lot at the mma gym I go to. Its not that I dont do well in both striking and grappling but Im not their equal in the sense that they are dedicated and trying to make careers out of mma.
When they win a naga or get to go fight in KOTC and Dream Im just happy to know that IF I did commit to training, MAYBE I could be there with them.
After I finish this degree we'll see if I can do anything at comps but Im about to be 32 so Im just happy to train with great people.
Im def better at striking than jits I feel but not remarkable in either. I dont have the cardio and fitness down.

thats for sure. We have a good 135er and a really good 145er now though. My 10-20lbs only help until I run out of cardio after about 5 rolls. Does grappling take a lot more cardio for you than striking? Im dancing all over but I can go for way longer standing? I better get off the internet and jump some rope.

personally my grappling cardio is really muscle endurance so my hands stay up but i had to work on the explosive endurance of striking, really for me i've seen boxers and strikers gas way before me when sparring even when they are kicking my ass lol i think it's the mentality and the grueling nature of grappling that helps with striking, already having the idea of setups and movement , where most off the street think imma just throw a bunch of hard punches. I havent rolled against real killers in a hot minute so i cant say how good my grappling cardio is. lol

Im not that sure how muscular endurance and cardio are different? I'll have to look it up. I know i'm not burning out from being too tense, I feel like im technical for 9-15 min but then no matter how hard I will it im slow and weak, all I can do is defend but I can defend for a long time. Guess because defense is just easier?

I probably just need to roll more often and for longer to build that muscle endurance. This semester I didn't train for over 40 days in a row!

Bjj guys (myself included) are really good at staying calmer and using less oxygen than someone with much less mat time. Having said that, when those 4oz gloves are on and the dude isn't on his 6th or 7th round of sparring and has an incentive to knock yo ass out, things change a bit as far as endurance levels and oxygen intake.

As far as jelly? Ehh, I don't really consider it jealous necessarily. It definitely gives me something of a satisfied feeling to see teammates that I did very well against destroying in MMA. It almost makes me wish I was doing that as well, but only for a split second. Then I remember how much cutting weight and getting into what I consider, "mma shape," sucks.

No one at my gym is BJJ guy, Dudes at my run 4-5 miles every morning with the coaches or they hear shit about it, my coaches strategy relies a lot on being in really good shape and pressing the pace. We do all our warm ups, bag work and exercises before we grapple so I start grappling on my third wind and they're hardly phased. The times I came late and skipped right to grappling have been by far my best nights. Or when the coach had me coming in just to have the fighters grapple me. Somehow he thinks Im better than I am.

Im the only guy that is primarily there to grapple and does it for fun and can't take fights. Im a bio major working on my thesis so while schools in I hardly train. Wish I had access to a regular BJJ academy but I do like to spar. The carlson gracie place near me stopped doing no-gi not long ago.

I'll be going to the Grant Pass Moon this summer amap so Im sure I'll get to be a lot better. I have no idea at all how far from blue belt level I am. Probably pretty far. Cant wait to get those warm-ups down.
