Someone else already started a thread on this, but I like this thread better. It is more positive. I thought Javi did well. He was really hunting for the triangle off the Meat Hook, and at one point almost grabbed a Free New York. Also he was able to really neutralize a lot of Chad's athleticism, which is saying a lot because Chad Mendes is a beast.

Agreed. And what I appreciate most was that he was really trying to work different techniques and not abandoning them when the pressure of Mendes was getting tougher. He was actively searching and also he was utilizing mission and the meathook nicely as control positions and throwin in strikes as well. TTT for Javi all day long.

Just rewatched this fight. Javi is so fun to watch and the fact he was constantly hunting for the submission off the bottom using Mission Control, Retard Control, Meat Hook, Chill Dog.. The only time he actually got hit was when he was using a traditional guard. So awesome to see a Gracie blackbelt embracing the rubber guard.
