Have to say that Eddie Bravo's episode of MTS with Rhonda Rousey changed my Jiu Jitsu game forever… I'd never really bothered with Arm Bars (Triangle is my bread & butter from guard) until I saw that episode. Then Eddie gave me the most simple concept in the world that no instructor had mentioned to me until that point:
Get the elbow to the belly button and lock the shoulder.
I've gone from landing not a single arm bar in 18 months (the last one, ironically, was in an MMA match - which is why I'm so sure of the date) to landing maybe 3/4 a session. That said, now that the guys are starting to switch on, it is starting to get hard (a good sign, I'm sure you will agree!).
I was wondering what the 10th planet guys do to lock the shoulder against more advanced competition. I know Nathan Orchard has the Dead Orchard, which is awesome. So I guess it doesn't need to be specifically for the old school arm bar, but just generally: how do you lock up that shoulder?
