    Bad locations

I'm Originally from Rochester. Yes, I know, almost Canada. But even though that place wasn't Brooklyn in the 80's, It was still a very dangerous place growing up. I know a couple guys on here that know how bad Rochester is.

Anyhow, being that HQ is in LA (there are several moons in SoCal) and some moons/HB's are bound to be in a bad/questionable neighborhood, do you guys feel like it's a separate world when you're inside the matted area? I get that this could be how everyone feels about bjj already, but In the very dangerous places, you still have to keep your eyes open for the problems happening right outside. You might lose a training partner to stray bullets or a mugging gone wrong, Is it something you guys think about?

lol not every day man hahaha this has never even happened to me. I don't wanna make it sound like I go to "The Bricks' Bjj club on Valentine and 1.8.3, even got runnin' water an evrythin!" lol I'm saying it could happen.

I guarantee there are areas so bad that some moon heads/hb leaders are looking over their shoulders. There's no way that SoCal locations and even down in Mex never worry about things like this.. Just trying to get some opinions.

LA is huuuuuuuge bro. Just like NY is huge. There are parts that are bad. But from what I understand, the larger chunks are nice and easy going.

From the looks of it, the parts that HQ is in doesn't look like the type of part that gets drive by's. So i'm sure they're fine. I remember walking from Empire INTO the hood and feeling fine.

Ah yeah. Don't know why the size of LA didn't immediately connect...

And I know It's not a big deal, but the hood near Empire, no matter how tough I am, is still the hood right down the street.
I dig that the part of University it's on is going toward the nice part of the city. But you know what I'm saying man, Rochester was not all Park Ave.

If all the moons/hb's are in the nice parts of the city, then hey, by all means disregard.

I grew up in the 209, your hoods do not impress me. I once had a 12 year old throw a Snapple bottle at my head and tell me to go back inside at 3am. I've also been mugged at gunpoint by another kid and various other stockton and oakland related craziness.

Really though, any urban area is potentially dangerous if you are unaware, unlucky, or stupid. You can't put too much thought into it beyond being aware of your surroundings and making sure you don't look like a good target. If I see a car driving slowly I'm ready to hit the floor, I tend not to have anything nice out in the open, always stay aware, no headphones etc.

10th Planet Birmingham is situated in Rubery. I've lived here my whole life. Rubery is a microcosm of an entire social spectrum in a couple square miles.
The only 'village' that has 5 high rise flats (towers) surrounded by housing projects home to god knows what exactly. Except the rest of Rubery does it's best to keep up the middle class holier than thou front. Only it still can't pull it off. But on the whole it's a peaceful place, save that whole Cock Hill part..
Kendrick Lamar says about Compton ain't no city quite like mine, I say about Rubery ain't no village quite like mine.
It's peculiar but I'm a product of it so what can I say?
