How do you keep track of your game?

Quite a while back, I made a flow diagram up of my game. This was a year and a half or more ago, and it was much, much simpler then. I've been lax and not updated it, and now I can't see it being workable - too many boxes, too many lines.

I'm a banker by trade (don't hate), so naturally I'm thinking of a spreadsheet or database, something I can filter and sort so I can maintain it and keep it up to date this time around. I have this vision of something that looks awesome with cool features and links but I'm not sure my technical expertise is going to support my vision. In thinking about the best way to go about setting something up I thought I'd ask the question: is there anyone out there that already has/does something like this, how does it work for you and what does it look like?

Our Gi guy Dino turned me onto a program called something like mind mapping, I'll double check with him and get back to you.
Sounds like it's exactly what you're after.

Good post. It inspired me to write out my paths. When I was at my best was when I was flowing through the paths like abcdefg. Since getting back on the mats my muscle memory sucks and my brain memory was totally scattered. I'd go for electric chairs without starting from whip up, for example. Writing it out is bring back my memory and helping me stay organized.

Just in general to keep track of my game I either look at how I'm getting better at certain situations, so say getting better at keeping side or mount and then how I get on with people better than me (huge part of getting better is rolling with people better than you I think). So I don't think personally you need to look toooo in depth to it.

Oh and also think how much tighter/better you're getting at setting up a certain submission that you're working on, don't need to be too complicated I think

I've used Jason Scully's free build a game plan for a few years. I have everyone fill one out, even young kids. Even though they don't understand it, I help by adding the positions they hit while rolling. I get the parents involved and colored pencils going on to connect the flows. Eventually it becomes a personal map that only the student understands, their own game.

I've just played around with a couple of mind mapping apps for iPhone, which makes it readily available at any time.

Simple mind+ seems the one to go with, it allows the most branches and is the most user friendly.
Also you can download any one of a heap of mind mapping programs for your PC.

I usually just keep a principle in my head and let the moves flow from there. Right now I'm up to control, dominate, pressure, and narrow the focus. Been getting mad props after rolls with higher belts.

Gotta lot of work to do, but it's coming along rather nicely with this mindset.

I track all my subs, and the shit I get subbed by. Track it by simple sub (e.g. choke) as well as specific sub (e.g. rear naked choke). I recently added the set ups to these subs. I can filter what I want and run pareto charts in mini tab to see what shit I'm most susceptible too, what shit I'm best at, who is fucking me up the most, etc. Definitely highlights what I need to work on. I will, however, be using this information to create some paths...per your post, so thank you.
