hello all. I've been a bit off-grid for several weeks to take care of some personal issues. I'm back now though!
Emir-1st: the best thing you can do is come in and give us a try. If the first thing you look at, or only thing you're concerned with is price, that's the wrong attitude. I know that the Royce Gracie affiliates charge about $90-100 per month with a contract, and MANY schools in the area that offer ONLY BJJ are between $100 and 200 (some are over $200 for ONLY BJJ with maybe a one day per week "no-gi/MMA" class). I have quite an extensive curriculum: Muay Thai, JKD, 10th Planet, Catch, etc. so there is a breadth of experience and knowledge. Personally, I have been training in martial arts well over 20 years (since I was a teenager) and have been doing BJJ/sub grappling since 93. Additionally, you can't really judge a school JUST by how they do at a NAGA. First, most of my students are Blue belt or less at the moment. My more experienced students don't care about grappling tournies. They either don't compete, or compete in MMA. Also, my team is a bit smaller for competition than most schools. I don't necessarily push people to compete if they're not mentally into it. Most of my students are professionals (law enforcement, IT, Project Managers, etc) who don't compete primarily because of lack of time to train properly for a competition, as well as trying to avoid injury. I would say we do pretty well. At the last grappler's quest, everyone on my team of 10 except two placed, we got three golds, 2 silvers, a bronze, etc. I have placed or taken gold when I compete (when I have time) and I train in every class with all my students. A couple students from the Royce Gracie affiliates have come to train with me and know me, so you can ask around there. I will go out on a limb and say my students will match up with anyone, and so will I.
You've messaged me a couple times, so why don't you come in and try out a class next week. Say, Monday the 6th? Try the whole shebang. If you're under 18, come in with your Mom or Dad and have them watch. You're welcome to try us out.
