I really loved this movie but I sometimes like films that not everyone likes. The main character Terry is very compelling and moral and I like that in a good guy. The villain is played by Jean Jacques Machado!
The film seems to be telling the MMA story from the very early days and even takes a swipe at a few questionable issues in the industry. Like the commercialization and/or money chasing of some of the more prominent practitioners of BJJ, the way some people feel it deviates from what Helio wanted, etc. Dan Inosanto plays the character that is pretty obviously meant to represent Helio Gracie.
It also touches on the dark side of fight promotions and in some ways seems to be taking a swipe at the rumors that organizations like "Pride" had fixed fights.
I really enjoyed it and some people said they didn't like it as an "MMA movie" but I actually kind of felt it was a "BJJ movie" more specifically. I had never seen BJJ spoken about in a spiritual sense before.
