Galvao-Sonnen Match in Jeopardy... is that really so bad?

In my opinion, the cancellation of the headliner doesn't affect my excitement level for the event very much. I feel that Sonnen represents absolutely no threat of submission to Galvao in a pure grappling match, and that the best possible outcome for Chael would be to hold on in full guard and avoid being submitted. In my opinion, the real main event and most exciting matchup is Barnett vs. Lister. However, I fully recognize my own lack of subjectivity as I'm friends with and have trained extensively with both men. What do you guys think? Am I just being nepotistic or is Barnett-Lister the real main event?

Well, both of Lister's Metamoris matches so far have ended in draws.

Galvao's matches have been a draw (Ryron) and a decision (Lovato).

I find Lister-Barnett appealing as a style vs style, but that is somewhat tempered by the fact that as much as Barnett claims catch, he has cross trained significantly and competed in BJJ.

To me, the biggest match is Keenan vs Vinny.

I agree lister and Barnett will be very interesting and exciting, however I think Metamoris was trying to get the casual grappling fan but hardcore MMA fan to come and buy a PPV to see Chael compete. I think it takes away from the card, but it doesn't take much away from the excitement. I'm still curious to see who the secret match is.

First off this is ridiculous. The govenment has no business in this matter. It's like saying your license got revoked so you can't go go carting anymore or you'll get fined.

I agree that Metamoris is using Chael Sonnen to attract MMA fans to BJJ, and I think they totally should be doing that. However, if it wasn't for that strategy, it would be almost insulting to Barnett and Lister to not be the main event.

That is one of the most intriguing matchups I can think of, between two legends. I saw Lister last night on Eddie's podcast, he looks HUGE and as always has such a warriors mentality. You can say the exact same thing about Barnett. Both guys are leg lock masters, both are aggressive, both seem impossible to submit. It's one thing to see Dean go against an opponent who hides his legs at all costs, but to see him against another leg lock expert like Barnett, who is confident enough to attack Dean's legs and possibly expose his own legs in the process is a dream match up.

I've heard rumors about Metamoris having trouble finding an opponent for Barnett, and I can see why. Normally, the BJJ guy can build his name by beating a MMA guy with a lesser ground game. However, Barnett is primarily known for his MMA, but I expect he would be able to beat some really high level pure BJJ guys (as he has in the past). Leave it to a guy like Dean Lister to step up in weight and take on the dude no one wants to go against.

To me the X-factor in the Barnett/Lister match is the fact that Barnett is in a position to close out his MMA career as UFC champ. I think Barnett's striking from the clinch and ground game is the most serious threat to Cain Velasquez's belt. If Barnett and Lister are in a leg lock battle, will the lucrative payday, and opportunity to be UFC champ again be in Barnett's mind? Who knows, but I can't wait to find out.

I think Chael Sonnen vs Galvao would be an awesome MMA fight, but submissions have been Chael's weakness, and he is more of a grinder than a guy who is offensive with submissions (unless he is going against a striker with a limited ground game).

So, no, he won't tap early to save his career. If you asked him, I bet he'd say something like: a fighting career isn't worth having if you aren't willing to die for it.

It's been a while since I last posted here, but I've been following the forums for quite a while. I've spoken to Ralek and told him Sonnen vs Galvão makes no sense at all. If it ever happened, it would be an absurd match.

I mean, Metamoris has now set a standard for great fights - Schaub aside. We had Roger vs Buchecha, Kron vs Shinya and Eddie vs Royler 2. Although I love Roger with all my heart, there is no arguing: the best match in the history of Metamoris, and one of the best matches in the history of Jiu Jitsu itself, was Eddie vs Royler 2.

So, that being said, we had comparable skill and experience in pretty much every single match - Schaub aside. Even Ryron vs Galvão could be called a great match, if you think "Unstoppable Force vs Immovable Object". So, what would be the point of matching a fucking badmouthingcheaterpieceofshit against one of the best players in the game? Like I said to Ralek: I've been supporting Metamoris from the very first event, but I can't see the point in this one. I think we won't be losing anything if this match never happens. Why can't we see Marcelo vs Kron?

I'm with you Barnett/Lister is the most intriguing match on the card by far. Keenan/Vinny will be another that has me interested.
