With the resurgent interest in CACC, I figure why not make a thread to spread ideas an principles?
I feel like the post UFC 1 days of CACC suffered from too many frauds. It just didn't seem the have the same checks and balances as the BJJ world where it was easy to trace your lineage. Throw in the fact that lot of guys lacked professional polish. Some maybe lacked business savvy. Some were self taught and didn't know when something was just a "show" move. But under the surface, CACC was still surviving. And on one of the biggest grappling competitions of this generation, we saw CACC get it's time to shine.
But many people don't know that CACC was already shining and beating BJJ 10 years ago. Enter, Kasushi Sakuraba.
I know one BJJ website kept pointing out how Barnett was grabbing the toes to set up a toe hold. In this video we see that's not exactly the case. Grabbing the toes is simply a basic tenet of CACC because it offers better leg control than grabbing the ankles.
After dismissing CACC as ineffective, watching this video about 5 years ago made me a believer. And despite the fact that there are still frauds out there, it's proven that it's worth listening to. We may have similarities, but the devil is in the details. I think we can learn a lot from each other and make everyone's grappling better.
