    Sensory Deprivation/Isolation Tank

whats up guys? im doing my first float in a sensory deprivation/ isolation tank tomorrow. im pretty excited about it, ive heard numerous praises about it and how great of a tool it is for clear thinking and meditation in general. just wondering if anyone has ever floated in one before and if so what your input is.

also im particularly interested in how well ill be able to control my thoughts and visualize on things like BJJ positions and if so how much it will allow me to better see and think through issues ive been running into. thanks

The experience someone has will widely vary in each person. I've been a few times now and have just found it to be relaxing. Although I have not experienced any sort of psychedelic visuals or thoughts, my roommate has; he swears by the tank now. Make sure you either put the ear plugs VERY deep into your ear or not at all, otherwise it will just become troublesome. Don't be afraid to try different body positions. The most comfortable for me in the beginning is when I have my hands by my side although eventually it makes me very nauseous and I'll have to support my neck by grasping my fingers behind my head. Enjoy!

try not to expect anything on your first time, otherwise you'll find it might be a let down, some people go into it thinking they're going to see amazing visuals or watever, you need to be able to completely relax in there and focus on your thoughts to get a the biggest benefits out of it. As rogan says, you really need to go into the tank a few times first before you get the hang of it, being able to completly relax and let go. I use it mostly for a relaxing heal, since all you're muscles go inactive if you spend a few hours in the tank you come out feeling real fresh like you've just had a great long sleep

and yea, make sure your ear plugs are in TIGHT or you'll have dried out salt in your ears for ages

The tank is amazing i had my first float about 3 months ago ear plugs are a MUST other wise you will hear salt crystals grinding in your ears for weeks

hey guys, my apologies for the delay in responding. first off the tank was absolutely fantastic, i came out of it unbelievably relaxed. i seriously felt like i had about 8 hours of the best sleep of my life. also i went and did some intense MMA sparring and seemed to have a noticeable positive effect on my cardio. ill admit it took me about ten or fifteen minutes to fully relax and kind of let go. its certainly unlike anything ive ever done before, but once you embrace that your mind seems to become detached from your body. i actually forgot that my body was there for the majority of the float. during the deeper parts of the float i had some fairly deep philosophical thoughts and experienced some mild green traces of light as well. i certainly recommend this to anyone who is comfortable with themselves and a believer in holism, for that matter most anyone who is truly open minded will enjoy it. the place i went to is in wilmington, nc and its call drift and dream (driftanddream.com) the staff was real laid back and comforting. they send out weekly emails with specials and im actually going back tomorrow seeing how i booked another float on special to include a free 30 min massage before hand. take care guys and if you get the change try it!
