But Tony seems to go inverted a lot in the cage. I saw him do it this fight and last fight. He doesn't seem to pay for it either, which I've always been told that inversion is no bueno for mma.

Tony is a savage no matter what position he's in. I think going inverted really quick to hit a spiral sweep when a guy is standing over you is crucial but staying inverted is dangerous, look at Renato Verrisimo vs Frank Trigg and Matt Hughes, he's takes big shots that were significant in his losses to both of them

So I just watched the fight again and a few things stood out to me. He went inverted twice, both times near the cage it seemed, so perhaps the cage was used to help him support himself as he was inverted. Also, both times he went inverted, he was very careful to keep his legs in between his face and Trujillo's face, basically rendering Abel unable to punch him. Both times he even started setting up submissions off of it, kimura/armbar with a swim move scissor leg position, and almost started locking up a toe hold. Both times he was able to limit damage very well until standing back up. Also, the position allowed him to utilize the up kick at least one time, and he could've done even more.

I think Tony might be on to something with his mma inverted guard, and I'm quite excited to see how far he progresses with it.

In Ryan Hall's Inverted DVD he says that he goes inverted in MMA practice and it works perfectly fine. People said Deep Half wouldnt work in MMA and it has worked at a high level so I dont see why inverted guard wouldnt work

That was a crazy exciting fight. Abel came out with some really bad intentions, but it must've said something psychologically for Tony to keep coming without fear. Love watching his ground game.

Last time I saw someone pull deep half was some guy against rampage. Didn't end well.

Yeah Tony has a good chin. I was worried because he was eating some shots. But as time went on, he kept looking fresh and Abel started to fade. And I knew it was only a matter of time.

Last time I saw someone pull deep half was Werdum against Travis Browne and he made it look easy. So I'd say, don't play it unless you're a master at it. But also, that guy who fought Rampage didn't really pull deep half as much as he pulled Rampage into knee on belly. LOL. I remember thinking, dude, wtf are you DOING?! And then, lights out. Haha.
