I haven't seen it so I really hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but I don't think you should stop based on one defense. Marcelo's north south choke hasn't even truly caught on yet in high level no-gi or MMA, besides one or two matches/fights over the past 5 or 6 years. It takes a long time for almost everything in grappling to become popular.
Also, there are awesome defenses out there for every submission. But that just makes both sides of the coin sharper. If you have a killer armbar defense, it doesn't mean the armbar sucks. It means your armbar will get sharper as you have to deal with the defense. Then as your armbar gets sharper, so will their defense, and everything just gets better on both sides. I imagine this is the same thing.
The darce was a game changing technique for fighting. It's able to be set up and finished from a variety of positions and angles. It's a must-know technique and I doubt that will change. Things go in and out of fashion. Passes, sweeps, subs. I remember when the darce was considered really advanced and now you've got berimbolos. Go figure.
I don't think arm triangles in general are going anywhere. Anytime you can control someone's head and arm, you've got a high chance to fuck them up. You obviously didn't say that they were going away but I just sort of went off on a tangent. But to bring it back, I'd love to see Geo's final match if anyone has it?
