Its been almost 2 months since the Great Lakes Training Camp, and I finally have my match up! I knew that I was on the alternates list for the 8-man tournament, but had no idea I would be called to compete.
I just finished warming up my buddy Aaron Chidester for his match, and suddenly I am called up to fight in front of some of the baddest names in 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu! It was an absolute honor to be able to compete in front of so many amazing athletes and upper belts like Nathan Orchard, Einstein, Chris Herzog, Adlai, Josh Passini, Brandon Mccaghren, etc.
This match was 2 months into my recovering knee injury. So conditioning was a concern. I started the match by going for the Schafer NoGi Baseball choke and was instantly countered by a flying armbar. I should have stood back up or passed, but ended in full guard. The pace was crazy so I was content to play defense. My opponent went for Dead Orchard, Gag Reflex, and eventually the triangle. I was able to battle out and went for a standing pass. He countered with a leg lock attempt, and I tried to do an old school gracie guard pass, which failed. I then swamp walked to marcelotine and full mount for the tap. ;p
It was a great way to highlight all the work I have put in over the last year, and the best I have looked on the mats in competition. I can't wait to get back out there and rep 10p again soon!
Oss!!!
Thanks for all the support, sponsors, fans, etc!
