Were you a little late on the tap, or did you just figure you should not tap from a body triangle?
I'm a newbie but at this point I'm tapping to anything that hurts. I've tapped just cause a dude who outweighed me by 60lb was sitting on me for too long while demonstrating things to other people and talking to them.
Also remember your joints, your bones, your muscles, they will all get more durable and conditioned from years of Jit Jitsu. Pushing all those things too hard too early is just a way to lose mat time from injury.
I understand though. You were caught and you wanted to fight out of it. Props for fighting!
If that's hard training, or a competition, or an MMA fight, or a street situation, it's all a matter of degrees. If you are fighting for your life, and you survive with a 2 month rib injury, bravo!! If you are just rolling open mat on a friday night and you walk away with 2 months of pain and reduced training, someone made a mistake. Just my 2 cents though.
