    Half guard issues

Ok, been really working my lock down and have an awesome success rate. It keeps getting better and better against everyone but one person, my instructor.(he's a purple belt) He's 25-30 lbs smaller than me but damn strong. When I get the lock down he doesn't even do any traditional escapes like buttox compressor, he just keeps flexing his leg straight and hips on the mat to the opposite side of my lockdown. If I try to whip he is able to keep my lockdown on the mat, I can't elevate him at all. I try whipping with my legs to at least get to my hip but he's able to keep my legs stuck to the ground. Any fixes or should I abandon and try something different?

Try the whip down (getting to your opposite side hip and extending his leg) to shift his weight. From there you should be able to whip up

Are you drawing your knees to your chest when you try to whip up? Are you familiar with the fat whip? That might help. Stiff leg or not, you just need to get to your side to get things working.

People try to do that to me. I feel like they're giving you the stomp.

Can someone smarter than me vet that?

If getting to my side were an option, trust me I'd do it. I've tried bending my knees in, whipping straight up in the air, I've tried whipping any which way I can but it's like he has this counter down that makes leg movement with the lockdown impossible.

I tried looking for a video of it and couldn't find it. Maybe it's somewhere in the 10th planet Rocehester youtube somewhere. Maybe Coach Zog will hook it up in the near future. But it's a version of the whip up that Zog developed for heavyweights. I'm a big guy myself, so usually I was training with big guys. No kidding you, I went from struggling to whip up (weak core cuz I'm a fat slob) to being able to whip up big boys with ease.

I'll try to explain it the best I can. Basically, you underhook the leg that's not locked down, and as you whip up, you use your under hook, and a shoulder bump, to bump them over so you can get on your side. Fat whip is like my golden hammer. It's pretty rare that I don't get onto my side when using the fat whip.

If he is stretching/sprawling his opposite leg, go to full guard. Don't force whats not there.

That seems the most logical root. I was curious if anyone else encounters this or had a fix. Abandoning the lockdown was the only thing I could think of. Thanks coach Herzog
