I know here in ohio the cops cant even search your car without permission. k9 or not. And if you DO give them permission to search it, they cant look in your locked glove box. all they can do is say "youre going to need to open that".. to which i respond.. "no, i dont have the key" or "no, i dont want to" they cant force you to. and same thing with the mail. They can try to tell you that you need to open it.. but legally if you say no they cant make you.

All they gotta do is pull u out of the car and fail u on the sobriety test. Driving under the influence is illegal. Once they impound your car after they arrest you....they search everything to document what you have in it so that you can't say they stole something....to include your glove box, not to mention probable cause to search...like "hey, smells like weed in here" or "we got a call about shots fired in the area and u fit the description, as a matter of public safety I am going to search your car for a weapon....glove box...marijuana falls under the "plain sight" doctrine and your hit. If they want u they will get u. Easier for u to just stay home

Also all vehicles passing through ports of entry as well as a 50 mile radius ( mite have changed since my academy days) surrounding are subject to "inspections" which carries a much lower standard if any, than "searches". In arizona they tried to use this justification to have border patrol agents patrol in downtown phoenix because of the broad lattitude they have. Its also why TSA can body scan and search without without a warrant. And i mean no disrespect but the envelope with a stamp idea is laughable to me as a former cop and i wouldnt recommend anybody swearing by it. If i can smell it i have probable cause to search. end of story. The federal standard for opening mail is for mail in official transit which does carry a very high
standard, but does not apply to an envelope in your car.
