Lovato won his first match at 2013 over Shinsho Anzai by flying triangle at the 1-minute mark. I thought it was pretty memorable.

oh, no question. i suppose i was being pretty vague but was referring to memorable in terms of competing against guys who were either considerably heavier or favoured relative to them.

In the 66 class the sleeper pick is Tanquino, I think he lost to Radar last time early, ref decision or something

good call. i think it was a tough match that might have went to OT and rader eventually got a takedown? something like that.

i also hope to see frazzato do well, in 2011 he was unfortunately matchup against rafa (teammate) first round and lots by points (was relatively close)

Speaking of memorable moments from 2013... Lovato nearly subbed a dude with a gogoplata in (I think) the semi-finals. I think deep down he's 10p4L, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to suggest that to him yet. I know that when I first saw the match I was screaming at the TV to "get the butterfly out!".

Lovato was given the win against an injured Pablo in 2013. Pablo passed Lovatos guard in sudden death and still lost SMH . A healthy Pablo this year will not lose

If Cummings meets Cobrinha and Radar it will be tough for him

Radar has a good shot to win it all, Rafa and Cobrinha have dominated him, Rafa more so, but he is not in it this year

If Radar meets Cobrinha in the finals he has a better shot because the penalty points start right away

Lovoto will have a tough go, I think it's Keenan's year, he out grappled Barral last ADCC IMO and got a bad call

is that a fact? i thought lovato took it on advantages. i suppose i'm not 100% certain though, i don't remember there being a lot of scoring in the match.

Lovato Jr. took it on points. ADCC doesn't have advantages, just sub, points, or ref decision after double OT if there is no point differential after the 2nd overtime.




And yeah Popovitch was injured. Keenan defaulted the bronze medal after his somewhat controversial loss to Romulo Barral in the semis because Popovitch was injured and couldn't contest it. ADCC usually would pull whoever Popovitch had beaten before his loss to Lovato in the semis and have that person fight Keenan for bronze, but for some reason they didn't do that.

Popovitch is tough for everyone man. I always get fucking nervous whenever he and Lovato Jr. face off because I'm a huge Lovato fan. I think Lovato has a win over him at NoGi Worlds too. Popovitch's build and his style just make him so hard to deal with. He's not that exciting to watch but I think he can damn near pass anyone if he can get himself into their half guard.

Yeah he lost to Rader in the first match at the last ADCC. It went to the end of double OT and Rader rightfully got the nod. It was a good match but Rader out worked him and even had a couple tight looking top guillotines if I remember.

I don't know what to make of Tanquinho in this format. No disrespect intended but I think he wins a lot of matches in IBJJF on being a fantastic grappler with the rules. He always knows how to get advantages from near subs, takedowns, sweeps, and passes. He's always in great position on the mat itself for whatever he's about to try. His sense of how much time is left and what strategy to use is incredible. He's a very cerebral grappler. In fact I can think of maybe 1 or 2 subs I've ever seen from him and he's a world champ gi and no-gi and was always right there with Rafa and Cobrinha.

Even though he probably has the best wrestling in that weight besides Justin Rader and Cobrinha I just don't think his no-gi game is going to be on par with some of the other heavy hitters at -66kg. But we'll see really soon.
