Hey, episodes prior to MTS 88 do not have an HD option since the file is smaller than MTS 89 and newer. There is no fixing this issue but you can still see and hear Eddie explain the techniques. Perhaps in time he will revisit the updated techniques from older videos.

How can that be true if the Youtube ones are in excellent quality?

When the video was uploaded to the hosting site it was probably scaled down during processing. Youtube allows videos to be posted without quality loss. Many things have changed over time (video guys, hosting sites, length/size of videos). I am pretty sure the issue will not be resolved for older videos. If you experience poor quality on the newer videos please email the admin and let him know.
