    When all goes wrong!

Hi...not sure if this is a common question...new to the forum but I cant find the answer so thought Id post the question!

Anyhow, when using rubber guard (with left foot in right hand) people often push my right foot down for one reason or another and pass. Its all down hill from there...

I'm pretty sure I once saw something that when somebody pushes down the foot and steps over to pass etc, that there was a goto move from here...with some people actually letting the pass happen so that they could get the move...and actually end up submitting etc .

Am I imagining this, or is there such a move...and being 10th planet and all...I guess if there is it'll have a name to remember it by

    Thanks in advance.

There are a few things that you could do once people stuff your right foot and start to pass. the first thing would be to go straight to the Meat Hook. The first submissions I would be thinking of from the Meat Hook would be the triangle and the Carni. The Carni, it's essentially an omoplata variation. Look it up on MTS and youtube. Brandon Mccaghren has a variation called the Oprah on youtube too

Cheers...had a quick look at those. It's frustrating when someone holds the leg down and you know you're gonna get past any miniute...so I will have to master the meat hook, Carni etc. Guess with those moves it's all about timing.

Hindu control if you can play it. How you describe is exactly how I play it. I want them to pin the leg and try to pass, sets up Hindu. Unlike meathook, you don't need to get the leg free to play it.

Another option I use is to stick your right leg out to momentarily catch his left leg that's passing guard.
From there, quickly clear the neck and either gogoplata, or grab his right elbow, with your right hand, and his right wrist with your left hand(using a c-cup).
The right hand is monkey gripping his right elbow to my left hip. Now just crank. If they are uber-flexible on that arm, sink a fully locked figure-4 grip kimura and "mummy" your arms, this time the elbow is flat against your chest, and use your core to finish the kimura.

This stuff is limitless. Just find what works for you, but give everything a try. Everyone's gonna have different goto's to each scenario.

All of the above comments are super legit and I can personally vouch for all of those tactics and I have used them all with at least some success.

That said, I would have to say the most important thing is to start developing sensitivity of that foot. It is super hard to do that to me if I don't want you too.

Keep your knee glued to their body and if the foot is about to clear off the hip, make sure it clears toward their back, like half of a closed guard, rather than down.

This is a HUGE thing that almost everyone runs into and this is a detail that every great rubber guard player I have ever met has down well. I would spend time working on this and when you mess it up, select one of the above things and develop that too.
