The same specs are irrelevant as the hardware in Macs on average are faster, the Macbook's screen for one is a lot better. Plus, the programs that run on OS X are much more efficient and improve your workflow a tonne. Macs don't get as many viruses and don't need you to install loads of anti-virus programs that do more harm than good.
Also, if you really want to run Windows XP, you can get a program called Parallels and run any Windows program through your Mac. You can't do it the other way around.
I lol'd. Seriously though, Mac's OS hardware isn't any faster than the same thing running to Windows. It just costs more. That being said, I used XP as an example because that is what a LOT of stuff still runs best compatability wise with. 7 is a lot better than XP, but updates from non-Windows related things, namely games, comes slower to update to new models of any OS. Sadly, a lot of them will NEVER work with Mac OS (thus why many Mac users keep XP on their computers). But, if you want to pay a few hundred dollars more because OMG SO SHINY, that is your choice.
Do the obvious thing: Compare the models side-by-side, see if their is any software you want that will run on one but not the other, and if they can both do it, it comes down to price. Pretty simple amirite? I'll be the first to admit Apple has some great things going, and there are something Macs do better (namely music editing software), but seriously, check the software. If it has a better or more up-to-date version exclusively for one computer, then yea, get that. If not, it falls on price, and Windows will win the majority of the time there.
