Nelson, I applaud you for taking this stance. I don't see Shields getting GSP. Even if he can close the gap without getting clocked (more difficult with that piston-like jab GSP has acquired), GSP is no slouch in the takedown defense department. Shields got Henderson because Henderson HATES jiu jitsu and doesn't really work it from what I understand. He has no game from his back, so yes, when you put a wrestler on his back and he doesn't train for it, you will dominate him. And yes, he did look tired in that fight. I believe he also decisioned Mayhem, who isn't THAT big, for every round of his fight, but it was basically a positional battle. If you're a high level black belt, you should be able to submit Mayhem, who while competent, isn't supposed to be that proficient with BJJ (although he is good).
GSP has far, FAR too many attributes: the conditioning to grind it out and get STRONGER over 5 rounds, pure athleticiscm and coordination, SUPERIOR overall striking: boxing, clinch, kicking, knees. As good or BETTER wrestling offensive/defensive, and a legit black belt in BJJ. On paper, this should be a 4th or 5th roudn stoppage by strikes from the top.
