Roy Nelson vs Frank Mir... part deux

UFC just announce Mir vs Nelson for a future card and I can't help but remember their grappling match at Grapplers Quest. Neither one of these guys has amazing standup and this fight is bound to hit the mat. This could be an exciting fight. I'm only 149 but I know my heavyweight JJ guys have got to love this. Thoughts???

Well, to be honest Big country has been knocking guys stupid quite alot lately, and even against JDS, he was landing, and can take a shot like a champ.

I honestly see BC smacking Frank till he gets him to either shoot a sloppy takedown and end up on bottom, get knocked to the ground, or get clinched and taken down. Once on the mat, if Frank is on bottom, que up the fat lady.

I think Frank has better standup than Roy. Considering hes fought MUCH better opponents and has knocked out Crocop and Kongo. However since the fight with dos santos, he showed that he has some of the best chins in the heavyweight division. I doubt that either of them will submit each other, so i would put my money on Mir via boring decision

For those who haven't seen it. It was back in '03. I think Mir was a purple at the time. Not 100% sure.

He didnt KO Kongo, he just rocked him and then Guillotined him. Also I dont put much creedence in KO'ing the ghost of Mirko. He has not really fought MUCH better opponents. JDS is the same level as anyone Frank fought (level with Brock and Carwin) and if you look at respective performance against top comp.....Frank got destroyed, and Big country was hanging tough.

MMA math notwithstanding though (as it rarely add up too well) BC has looked game/good in every fight I have seen him in lately, and the guys he destroyed (shaub and Struve) also look like they are very good and still good. The only guys Frank has beaten in a while, have looked like crap in several fights. Standing they are close enough that IMO confidence will make the difference, and I think BC has a world of it right now, and Frank is worried about pink slips.

I think you way overestimate Frank's bottom game if you think he wont get mashed to hell if he ends up on bottom against BC.

I see Mir clinching against the cage and rocking Nelson with some knees or uppercuts then finishing with some GnP. I dont think Roy can handle someone as big and strong as Mir nearly as well as he did with JDS. Nelson has good punching power, but Mir's boxing is very underrated IMO, and he should be able outbox Nelson until he can work some Couture style dirty boxing on the cage.
