    Japanese Necktie question

I usually hit the Japanese Necktie a couple of times each class these days. I'm really starting to love this move. So much so, that I bought a Rising Sun headband and wore it around my neck like a tie for a while. It didn't look as good as I'd hoped, and none of my friends got the joke, so I've stopped. But it was cool wearing it one night in a bar and telling people that they gave them out for free if you pretended to be Japanese when you ordered a drink.

Which brings me onto my question:

Often when I'm going for the JNT (from half guard on top), I find it difficult to get my right arm far enough through. My hands end up about an inch apart and I really have to fight to get the gable grip. I once tried finishing with an S-grip but that failed.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing, or have a good method for sinking the arm in deep?

Make sure you're dropping your shoulder. If your right arm has the whizzer, drop your right shoulder as far as you can get it to go. That'll give you quite a bit more reach. That seems to be where a lot of the problem is with establishing the vice. At least, that's the aspect I hear coach correcting the most with the vice.
