    Question about training

Shortly I will begin training at a Relson Gracie Jiu-jitsu school. So, since they don't teach anything with the lockdown or rubber guard, and they use the traditional half guard, and are obviously a gi school, would it be disrespectful for me to use the lockdown and some 10P techniques, or should I only use what they teach/practice? Should I save these move for the No-gi class which is only once a week?

Do what your instructor tells you, if he says don't do it, don't do it. If he doesn't say anything about it, go for it.

I train at a Relson Gracie school in Phoenix. AZ we routinely work half guard and are starting to get more into the deep half aspect. We are scheduled to have Jeff Glover conduct a seminar next month and I believe he is mostly no gi and very deep half. I have noticed a great leap in the depth of my jits game, not only from what I learn during class, but also from places such as this website. So don't leave out parts of your game that you feel comfortable with already and be willing and open to learning new things and you should have no problem. I do notice that when ever I bring up 10th Planet or Eddie bravo to people I train with many people first comments have something to do with smoking weed. LOL. By the way my school offers gi and no-gi classes, so yours should too.

yeah, they have a no-gi class, but it's only once a week. I guess I could work more no-gi during open mat time. It's a shame though that people hear Eddie Bravo and automatically think about weed. I dont smoke anymore, and I love 10P. Eddie's the shit.

I actually recieved my Blue Belt from Relson when he was in town last month for a seminar...I felt honored to have him wrap it around my waist for the first time. Like I said, don't be afraid to use RG in class if you feel comfortable with it and it is part of your game already. Welcome to the Reslon Gracie family!!!

Thanks, bro, and wow. Yeah, that's pretty badass that he tied it around your waist. Such a high honor. Congrats!
