Traditional jiu jitsu vs. 10th planet jiu jitsu

Eric you'll be hard pressed to hear any of the 10th Planet top dogs say anything disrepectful or hateful towards towards "traditional" BJJ its usually whitebelts and people that are 10th Planet fans that don't actually training at HQ or an affialte.

This was during a free roll i guess since we didn't work any techniques before hand other then show a new guy the basics on passing guard and getting back to guard, I rolled with the new guy and took it easy on him not wanting to be a bully then I rolled with one of the blue belts. I would say more less I think they want me to stop pulling half guard and instead use full and only half for an option if it gets passed. But I don't ever work full guard during free rolling because of my lacking of skill with it. So I rely on butterfly or half seeing as they work a whole lot better for me. I catch my instructor telling me to get back to guard from half over getting a sweep from half. I used to work full guard until I discovered how effective my half was over it.

I now use full guard since I discovered I "could" use it effectively. HG is still a great option for me but having a little bit of trouble w/ people going to americana's at that position so its back to FG when that happens. Nice that I can now go to rubber for the better positioning then just throwing up triangles and what not. Still evolving I see new routes as every day goes by. as I was typing this i just remembered going for an arm bar at last saturdays tournament, then failing but should have went to omoplata after fail.

Oh..He now see's that what ever works for someone he lets them work it. Like he used to tell me to stop HG but now is acceptable of my use of it. He now focuses more on what works for each individual, because it is different as of what works for them independently. I have also evolved into getting him more into JJ then MMA. He has recently fought Igor Gracie and lost via submission. So Jiu Jitsu is more important this time. IMO

Finally some positive shit and not the brainwashed "the gi is gay, pajama sleep over, traditional is stagnant" mentality. Both are qually as great and have their purpose. Gracie Jiu Jitsu is take the man down and end the fight. Yes it's plain and simple and proven to be affective. More gi grapplers have won the ADCC and other high ranking comps without a gi. I like 10th p and find it very interesting and I know it works in a lot of situations. But all the negative hate and disrespect for the traditional Jiu Jitsu is what keeps 10th planet down and makes it frowned upon. Just my opinion. I don't think one is better but you can't say something is gay when it's got that much lineage

This is the exact opposite of my impression after visiting 2 10Planet schools. In the their studios I didn't hear negativity about anything, certainly nothing negative about jiujitsu (traditional or not). In fact I took a Sombo class wearing a Gi just before the 10th Planet class started this week - we had the same people in both classes. The Gi is our good friend - it's just that sometimes we like to throw No-Gi parties & obviously it would be great if the Gi could come - but, you know, rules are rules.

I think 10PJJ is really doing something positive. 10PJJ is a killer system with an open minded philosophy, amazing instructors & dedicated students. I was sold on the whole thing immediately, it has the right vibe for me!
