It's all about the money. The richest 1% owns more than half of the worlds "riches", while the lowest 50% own less than 1%. I posted this in another thread but this is more in line with this thread.

Well, I've slept since then, but I seem to remember having a problem with the technology part of it. If I remember correctly, he talks about using computers to track things and also to make everything automated. The thing about technology is it is always evolving. We went from mainframe computers to personal computers to laptops and iphones and ipads... How will you have universal interchangeable parts for something that is constantly evolving? The creators of this film hate fossil fuels, but what do they think all of those automated moving parts are lubricated with? They talk about not owning anything of your own, but checking things out like a library. What do you do when people don't return what they check out? What about furniture? Are you supposed to rent it for your lifetime? What about your home? You don't get to choose where you want to live? They will provide you housing in a fabricated community and thats where you get to live out your life? What if they put you on the bottom floor of this apartment, but you would like to be on the top floor with a view. Are you out of luck? Who gets to decide what floor you live on?

I think their hearts are in the right place, but the major flaw I saw is their dependence on technology.
And, to a degree, their dependence on science.

If you look at the Amish, Mennonite, early Native American, and other tribes of the world. What do they all have in common?
They don't depend on technology for their lively hoods. They don't have electricity. (Which I believe was a precursor to the problems we have today.) They have to depend on each other so their communities and families are strongly bonded together. I think a lot of that is lost today.
The problem with science is it too is constantly evolving. It wasn't that long ago that science told us that the world was flat and that the sun revolved around the earth. Even radioactive water was supposed to be good for you in the early 1900's because spring water naturally contains radioactive radon gas. My only point about science is that I wouldn't rely to heavily on what is said today because it might be proven wrong tomorrow.

Anyway, sorry for the long rambling post. Those were just some of the thoughts I had.

I don't feel you need to be sorry for your words, it's not like you attacked anyone. Free thought is what the movement promotes. I don't feel everything in TVP plan is perfect by any means, but I am not willing to dismiss the entire idea for certain details I don't agree with. The film does a great job in exposing how fucked up our current system is. That is the part I appreciate the most.

As far as technology is concerned, we are already completely reliant on technology. Ever since man used something other than his bare hands to complete a task technology was in used. Archery, farming tools, animal domestication, horseback riding, these are all technologies used by the groups you stated. Technology is a tool nothing more.

The dictionary definition of technology is, "the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area". So even something like martial arts and JJ is a technology.

Computerized tracking, restocking technology is already in use today. I worked at a car dealership with an automated inventory tracking system for our parts department. The parts are actually stored on a multi-directional conveyor system. A technician needs a part, the guy at the parts counter punches the part number on the computer the conveyor system brings the part to the front and the system registers one less of that part in stock and automatically puts in on order for the next shipment from the manufacturer. This not to say it wouldn't be a HUGE task to duplicate a similar system for a whole city much less the entire world, but it shows that this is currently within our technological means.

Electricity is not bad, it's those who profit from it that are the problem, energy is one of the biggest rackets in the world that lead to exploitation and poverty. We we could have had free electricity long ago, if it is free for everybody there is no way to make money from it. Do some reading on Nikolai Tesla. Fossil fuels as lubricant can be recycled, but when it is burned you can't get it back. Burning fossil fuels for energy makes for cyclical consumption which leads to more profit and so on and so on...

Scientific theories that hold up one day can be disproved the next. So you are right about that and that is the whole point. Religion for example will never be disproved to the religious, think about all the evidence out there against religion and how many religious fundamentalists there still are. Science doesn't have this ego about it, it's meant to be disproved so we can arrive at the truth.

Let's say you and I share a plot of land and we want to know where it is best to plant crops. How do we figure that out? We can argue with our opinions and never come to a clear conclusion or we could take soil samples and let our findings decide. When you get a pound of meat from the butcher, you don't argue with the butcher on what looks or feels like a pound, you let a scale decide. The whole point of using a scientific method is getting rid of human bias and opinion.

It's not about ending conflict, it's about ending wars for profit, which is the only reason we go to war.
