This happened long before Obama came into office. During the Reagan/Bush#1 years, media companies were merging to become super-corporations. America went from 2,000+ media companies in the 40s, to 200+ in the 80s, and 3 companies as of 2005-present day, whereas it was at 6 as of 2001. That gives the media companies the freedom to print whatever they want while avoiding public scrutiny. And you think you've been getting unbiased information for how long? Sadly, you need to go to the internet for decent info anymore. And then, you need to stay away from the biased websites. Finding truth has been difficult/impossible for a very long time.
The trick is; learn how to decipher information better. Critical thinking is imperative nowadays, and everyone thinks they have such a capacity, which is far from true. I would actually like to suggest a college text book to help in this department. It's a very good read, Thinking for Yourself - by Marlys Mayfield.
