I have only competed once in Judo and only done it for a couple of years so could be completly wrong (Us Aussies can be a bit behind the times), but I was always of the understanding that putting yourself on your back (a scrafice throw essentially) unless you pull off the throw is ippon to the other guy/gal. Just wondering if these were Judo rules or some form of hybrid?

    Just curious.

Awesome ground game though and congrats
No, you can go to your back with sacrifice throws, its about who is in control at the time of the throw. Tomoe Nage is one of the most common sacrifice throws in Judo (which goes across your back).

However there are other pieces that says its a hybrid set of rules, 100% sure its not standard judo rules. Regardless it doesn't take away from Decatur's performance.

It's definitely not under the standard rule set of Judo. They call it "freestyle judo." It's under the AAU (American Athletic Union). There were some really funky rules, and I stayed frustrated most of the day. For instance, we had to "stay active" on the ground. There were probably 10 occasions throughout the day where our guys either had a dominant position (mount, back, side) or a locked in submission and they restarted from the feet because of "no activity."

    Awesome job Brandon and crew!

So how the heck do i never know about these damn local tourneys???

It would be nice to not have to drive 3-4 hours and take up a whole weekend just to compete!
