There’s still a long way to go until a super fight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre ever becomes a reality, but at least the UFC knows where the fight would take place at.
Possibly the biggest super fight talked about since Randy Couture vs. Fedor Emelianenko, a potentially huge bout between St-Pierre and Silva could be one of the highest grossing events in the sport’s history.
Because of that, UFC president Dana White believes there’s only a few places that would be able to host such a historic fight.
“If that fight happens, there’s only a couple places we can do it. Maybe three,” White explained on Friday. “We could do it in Las Vegas, which would be, Vegas is the fight capitol of the world, but there’s no arenas big enough to accommodate a fight that big.
“Dallas Texas Stadium could be a place we could do that fight, and obviously Toronto would be a no-brainer homerun.”
The UFC will be heading to Texas this October, but the event will land in Houston instead of Dallas. The promotion has long teased about doing a huge show at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and a fight between Silva and St-Pierre would fit the bill for a main event draw.
With the huge success of UFC 129 in Toronto with 55,000 fans packing into the Rogers Centre, a return there would likely garner similar or even greater numbers.
Of course, a lot of ‘what ifs’ still remain before a fight of that magnitude could even happen. Silva is matched up with top middleweight contender Yushin Okami at UFC 134 in Brazil in August, and St-Pierre has possibly his toughest test yet when he faces multi-time world champion Jake Shields in the main event at UFC 129 on Saturday night.
