    loose invisible collar/crackhead control...

    I have been having trouble keeping my crackhead control really tight. Im not sure if its just because i have really long legs so hooking at the ankles doesnt work for me.. or what exactly. and as for invisible collar, its the same way but i typically just get close to traingling my legs or using my forearm to push their head against my other leg to keep it tight. But i was wondering if there was something i was doing wrong or if there is an adjustment i could make that could tighten it up without triangling my legs. ot if its just one of those things that instead of hooking ankles i just have to bring my foot up high on my calf and it will work the same.. anyway here's the clip of my old match and you can somewhat see it here at about 54 seconds.. in that one i had my foot way up under my calf because it makes it a LITTLE bit tighter. but not nearly tight enough as you can see.. so any suggestions would be great.

    yeah theres a variation has for when your doing it on smaller guys, which i guess would work well for you if your too big for most people lol. i cant remember exactly how its done, but its like this.
    you have invisible collar, then instead of using your right hand/wrist to hold your left leg, you reach up higher and grab your right leg with it which pushed your left leg further down as well and bring both your feet closer to you, making it much tighter. see how that works out mate

    dang man, you tapped a fellow brotha! good job! how would you rate your flexibiltiy? that might prevent you from getting the proper angle to make your guard tight.

    Karim - That sounds like it would be great. I'll give it a try. it makes sense in my head. hopefully it will work as well as im picturing.

    Will - I would say 1-10 im at an 8 or 9. Butterflys to the ground are no problem, lotus with no hands, and i can get one foot behind my head without my hands, cant quite get both yet. But overall id say its good. And I just saw where you were from! Im heading down to decatur on the 14th to train there for the week. So hopefully ill get to see you there! I havent been to a 10th planet gym before so im looking forward to the experience. cant wait to roll with you!

    lol. dont worry you made sense haha. And you should like it! you were able to escape it pretty well. You turned right out of it, and had i not been able to pull you back down you most likely would have gotten around to side control. Just one of those things where we both learned from our mistakes. I cant wait to get to roll again though! fun times

    That's definitely not it then. Wish it would work out but that's our spring break and I'm taking the family to San Francisco to see an old friend. Planning on dropping in with Denny while I'm there. I hate it cause we could prob help each other out (I'm 6 2") so we prob have the same problems. I live two hours away but I was there last weekend and will be there for Jon Helton's class Thursday.

    ah that stinks. but at least you'll be there thursday. I plan on being there then. So im sure we'll at least get a few rolls in.

    I find that getting off at an angle with a little foot in the hip first really helps tighten things up. Guess it depends which arm your attacking though. Either way, lookin good. Hope to see higher level rg players input. Wish I could make it up for Jon as well, I have a suspended license though and don't wanna risk it. Can't let em catch me ridin dirty.

    You are pretty squared up with the guy, hip out more and scoot back a bit. I'm also 6'2" and the little bit of angle makes a huge difference.
