From the Irish NOGI Cup last Saturday

I went for a takedown, got guillotined, man that was tight, got out of it after a minute or so ended up in that damn scarf hold (Kesa Gatame), ive always had trouble getting out of Kesa Getame.

Anyone have any good tips/videos for escapes?

The reason you got guillotined was because your takedown was sloppy you went for it extreamly slow witch you cant do with an experanced guy and you dident really shoot in for the takedown either you pretty much left your neck out their... So advice on takedowns.. faster and more explosive.

The make it or break detail for me, which determines if I can get out of the scarfhold, is whether or not I can get my inside elbow below their hip. From a standard side mount defensive posture you should already be framing their hip back with your forearm, so when you feel their hips turn towards you, you have to drop your elbow to beat their hips and get underneath them. It just takes a lot of drills before you get acclimated to the feeling of their weight shift.

If I don't get my elbow underneath them, then it becomes a battle and my survival chances diminish the longer I am in the position. Gable gripping around them actually gifts them the arm, and I usually don't go for the gable back arch reversal unless my arm is already trapped there against my will.

Also when u see someone escaping from an armbar like that and their pretty much out you should of pulled him back into your guard instead of just stay their and let them pass your guard

Ya i did alot of stupid things, the adrenaline rush was part of the problem.
We got a new wrestling coach in our gym last week so im working on alot of wrestling now. Gonna start strength training program in the next week or two aswell should help with those takedowns.
