Not common at all, You shure do have a lot of strange off the wall questions. You might want to choose a different sport, how about Ping Pong the only thing you got to worry about is tennis elbow.

sounds like someone is trying to injure you , i had some people try to injure me at times , got to learn the defenses against the arm/elbow in the throat and escapes ,hand fights etc. when they take your back

you real only have to worrie about someone impacting your throat to crush it because i use a forearm choke setup all the time and never hurt any one.

Ask the people at your gym how many times its happened to them. Learn to defend and turn the right direction and you'll be fine. Oh, and thats what tapping is for.

Usually if their elbow is in your throat you can turn away from it, shove it past your body and then try to take their back.

Forearms across the trach happen all the time in gi. There are a few gi chokes that result in it, but it's also a good way to control a guy and/or make them uncomfortable to allow you to do things.

When Eddie was here for a seminar a few years ago he named digging your elbow into the throat "the kazoo". From the mount, you dig your elbow into the base of the jaw/throat to get your opponent's elbows up and facilitate the transition to Gansta Lean. It works really well too.

my injuries from jiu jitsu, broken toes, popped both elbows (now i have tennis elbow), torn shoulder (its never been the same), popped throat (the scariest injury for me, but its all healed now), cranked neck (to the point were when i woke up i couldnt turn my head), dislocated collar bone and rib in my back (the most painful of my injuries. it was from working for a throw on a bigger guy and both of us go down and i got the worst end of it) and finally a broken nose.

thats about it, but i still love the sport and even got my son involved.

if you cant risk getting hurt, i would do tai chi or something
