Dude you need to chill out, it seems like you're constantly freaking out about one thing or another. Just take a deep breath and relax.

pull his arm into your trachea until his arm breaks off then hit him with it.

I'll second that. What happens if a guy torques my neck with a Twister? What happens if my arm is stuck and I can't tap to a d'arce? What happens if an NCAA div I wrestler folds me like warm laundry?

    Dude. Just tap.

You CANNOT prepare for every eventuality. There are a nearly infinite number of set-ups, sweeps, and submissions. That's why we all agree on one very fundamental rule: tap out. If you find yourself panicking because you feel in danger of injury, tap. Ask what happened, learn, lather, rinse, repeat. If it hurts, tap. If you're getting dizzy and the lights are dimmer than they were a second ago, tap. You are GOING to get schooled by most partners early on. You are GOING to get injured in some way at some point; that's just a fact of sports in general. Tiger Woods had surgery on his elbow from GOLF. I knew a girl who had reconstructive surgery on her ankle from KICKBALL. Don't expect to train jiu jitsu with any degree of dedication and consistency and not come away with some aches, pains, and injuries. Don't worry so much and just go have fun. If you can't, jiu jitsu might not be the sport for you.

thats about it, but i still love the sport and even got my son involved.

if you cant risk getting hurt, i would do tai chi or something
YOu can be brutally mamed in Tai Chi, .. it just takes forever.

take it from a 40+ out of shape dude...what they are telling you about tapping is true. Just tap...if they got me dead to rights for a arm bar or a choke I tap...and then ask the guy whose doing or the coach for a defense. You're there to learn...not get hurt.

Also, you are going to get hurt period. Especially if you are training in a gym where people are trying to get better and some are competing. This is not due to the fact that they are trying to hurt each other, it's just the harder yo train the more injuries occur. It is the name of the game. You dying due to an injury in a jiujitsu rolling session is very very low, however it is possible, just like it is possible for you to choke on popcorn and die while watching a movie. As an example, my lower back got messed up 3 weeks ago. I could not train since then and missed about a week worth of school on top not being able to concentrate to study for my exams because of the pain. I never even thought about maybe I should have not done jiujitsu so this would have not happened. I am just anxious to get better so I can get back on the mat.
