    Top Half Guard Question

Hey guys I have a quick question tried looking on the search engine but still had trouble finding an answer but if your on top in someones half guard and they have lockdown on your Right Leg what are the negative effects of having your right arm under the opponents head and left arm under his right armpit (over/under) which would let him have an underhook on your right arm and over hook on your left arm ? I know you can execute Godfather or Godfather sweep but what else can my opponent do from the bottom cause I mostly see people on top in half guard get over/unders this way just wanted to know the dangers or if its a bad habit or if its even bad at all, Thanks!

IMO it's not so much what your opponent can do from there but what are you doing on top? If you're locked down you need to work on freeing your leg to start the pass or set up a sub.

You should work to get the same side underhook as the trapped leg.

In the situation you describe the opponent could grab the back of his own head with his left arm and sweep you to your right.
Grabbing the head with your right arm, in my opinion, really compromises your base on that side necessarily. You should work to get opposite head and arm control, to dominate, and pass.

Jared explained perfectly. The less base you have, the more rollable you are. You have more options from this position than just base, but the only danger here is the sweep. POSITION BEFORE SUBMISSION

Yeah usually I try either a no hand pass or twister side pass when on top or recently learned buttox compressor which I like alot since you can I believe sort of fly over pass if Im saying the names right but plant your head on the same side as the leg that was locked down (right leg) and swing your legs over to the left to side control of course after breaking the lockdown with the compressor (correct me if im wrong id hate to be wrong and no one told me lol)

I mainly asked the question cause Im working mostly my bottom half guard and was asking cause sometimes my opponent on top in my lockdown will get an over under like how I said before but I go for godfathers and would like to know other options (well now I know that sweep Jared just explained thanks) what do you guys go for if your opponent gets an over/under like I explained above?

The guy on bottom can sweep you or take your back. The main issue is giving him the underhook with his left arm. That's the side that goes to your back, and that's the side that keeps him flat. What you are doing is forcing you base in the direction he wants to send you anyway. You almost always want to be fishing for the underhook on that side (right in this case), or the cross face (head wrap, shoulder on face, not forearm across face) with the other arm (left in this case). This will keep him flat and defensive, and make him carry your weight, tiring faster.

Yeah, if he's smart hell shuck your arm off and take your back bc your giving it to him. Switch up your arms and pass son.

Switch your head and arm control to the other side then you have many options.....twister pass/capoiera pass/buttox compressor/no hand pass etc
