Question about the reaper mount escape

Can anyone think of a way to progress from the final position of the reaper mount escape that doesn't involve a heel hook (or a calf slicer)? I've been using the reaper (without knowing it) ever since I started jiu jitsu, and I've got a competition next weekend that doesn't allow heel hooks.

I've found when trying the reaper that sometimes my opponent kicks his leg to the other side of my body, and I can get to 50 50 guard from there. My 50 50 guard is nothing to write home about, so I'd appreciate any input on this.

If your refering to submissions from the outside wedge or knee knot, there are a number that you can do as a straight leg attack including the two most basic: the straight ankle lock and the foot flex(which is in part 2 of my reaper as a mount escape series.

Just because your opponent switches his leg to your inside hip doesnt make it 50/50 guard, your legs would need to be outside of his legs as well.

You can still maintain the outside wedge or knee knot and finish from there if your opponent switched his leg to the other hip. However you can prevent that from happening if you hug their knee tight.

Ahh, thanks. I didn't realise that the foot flex was an option. I'll definitely start using that. I just checked the rules again and they say "no leg locks", but attacking the foot might be okay. I'll need to check on the day.

In case you're interested, when I first started pushing people off me in mount with my leg, before you made the reaper video, I used to always push them straight back and try to spin and finish with the calf slicer from your Russian Cowboy video. Which is why I found it particularly cool when you made the reaper video.

Every time I've ever seen "no leg locks" it means no leg/foot locks of any kind. Wouldn't make a ton of sense to ban calf slicers and not heel hooks.

footlocks and knee bars are allowed in most uk comps. i think ground control are alowing toe holds now aswell.
