i hear you on that PLUS i think a ton of traditional BJJ guys out there are very resistant to saying the gi is anything but the best thing since sliced bread.
BUT, personally, i find the gi has had a really big impact on my posture and movement, the added friction and opponents grabbing my collar forces me to be extra aware of how i move and defend from the top. then when i take off the gi my ability to create space on the bottom and my posture vs submissions is much much better and quicker.
this might not be the case for everyone but i don't think the gi should be completely discredited for nogi training.
