The point of being a writer is to be controversial. Nate is a smart guy and one of the most analytical people I've ever talked to when it comes to MMA. He knew exactly what kind of response this article would get. lol. It has like 70 comments on the site. GSP is actually his favorite fighter.

Then tell him to research what causes a KO (there are actually several causes), and to maybe watch a few more fights GSP is in. Because I could certainly take an analysis better if it doesnt have outright silly stuff in it.

As for the point of a writer to being controversial...not really. Besides, given most of the public sentiment, how exactly is what he is saying controversial (regarding GSP's lack of finishing) when everyone is saying he doesnt try to finish fights.......

he does try to finish, but he also knows when to play it safe and not take big risks

GSP is the champ, no need for kamakazi risk's, if gsp is dominating you 4 outta 5 rounds, in that last round hes just gonna keep wearing you out, he has no real need to throw any attacks, he already won it hes just on cruise control. BUT if he catches you with a VICOUS attack, you better believe hes going to jump all over you as fast as he can and finish you out.

What I find very interesting is GSP's "seemingly" lack of sub finishing knowledge:



He's been training with Danaher, Roger Gracie, and Braulio Estima a lot for this fight though, so I actually have a feeling we may see a finish in this fight one way or the other.

GSP: Decision, T/KO, Kimura from the top
Shields: Guillotine or Darce choke

My money is still on GSP by decision.

He did not let go of the armbar. Hardy escaped and GSP spent 30 minutes in the locker room with Danaher going over the straight armlock and the Kimura before he even took his wraps off.

I have contended before that hey "may" have let go of the Kimura. There was a point after the big crank he did on it where he looked towards his corner with a look in his eyes that seemed to say, "Should I break it?" This may have just been me. Either way, he released the Kimura. Hardy did not wriggle out of it. GSP has always had very strong Kimuras, and if he finishes Shields with a sub, it will probably be with a Kimura or a Straight Footlock (yep), although I wouldn't bet on either one of those outcomes.

He trained with Roger for barely anytime, i was excited too when I heard it, and Roger completly smashed him horribly apparantly.

John Danaher has said how scary Shields is if he thought GSP was on the same level as Shields he would never have said that.

The article is correct in terms of strategy. Knockout punches do require some sort of risk to the fighter throwing them, but it is supposed to be controlled. As far as anatomy of a knockout, he is really off.

It has almost nothing to do with the blood, as the brain is actually surrounded by cerebral spinal fluid. Check this video out to see what I mean in a simplified way:
